About Our Class

In fourth grade English Language Arts and Reading we will have a full year of exploring, going places, discovery, and creating by reading and writing beyond our wildest dreams. We will read and write every day.
Together we will work to respect and help each other. We will build a classroom culture that is kind and engaging. It will be full of listening, encouragement, and positive vibes.
The students in my class will be able to select books to read that interest them for their independent reading time. We will focus on novels in a variety of genres, analyze complex characters, figurative language, and complex plots. Fourth grade readers are building their reading stamina to up to 30 minutes or more.
We will also write about what we read, personal experiences, and expository pieces. Students will revise and edit their writing by rereadig to make sure their message makes sense and is well developed. The goal is for writers to be able to work at this process also for 30 minutes or more.
In addition, we will explore and practice words and word patterns together. This will help us grow as readers and writers.
Fourth graders are growing toward independence and being responsible for their learning. We will work on this together as we journey through this school year together as students, teachers, and parents. When we partner together, we will grow in leaps and bounds. Let's get started!
